Whats New In Eastwood?
As usual there is good news and bad news here at the Reserve. Good news first:
Sean Wood's article in the Advertiser generated a lot of interest in the reserve and the following Sunday was buzzing with visitors, many of who didn't know we existed or they had forgotten about us. The sun was shining, birds were singing and they couldn't have come at a better time to see the reserve. We have got a couple of new volunteers out of the publicity and from that point of view it couldn't have worked any better.
However, here comes the bad news. We scheduled a meeting with Cheshire Wildlife Trust for Tuesday 16th of September to try and get clarification on several aspects of the reserve and most importantly where the supplies we ordered back in June had got to. Guess what, they didn't turn up claiming that they had no comfirmation of time, date, place despite us having emails to the contrary.
Maybe this shows the wildlife trusts level of commitment to the reserve and might go someway to confirming the following:
I received my copy of the local council newspaper this morning. In it, under the heading "Stalybridge District Assembly" it says that "A BID HAS BEEN PUT IN TO LINK CHEETHAMS PARK, GORSE HALL AND EASTWOOD NATURE RESERVE TO CREATE ON BIG URBAN PARK." Now, we volunteers now nothing about this and I have emailed all organisations who would be involved in this to seek clarification (RSPB, CWT and the council) but as yet have had no response. Anybody who would like to know more can email me and I will keep them posted.
